Level IIIA soft armor is built from layered ballistic fibers that catch and spread the energy of a handgun round across the panel. It's flexible, light, and made to be worn all day — under a uniform shirt or over one.
Level III hard plates are pressed polyethylene (PE): dense fiber layers fused into a rigid plate that defeats rifle fire. PE keeps the plate light enough to actually wear, and it won't rust, crack, or spall like bargain steel.
Certification matters. Ironback models are certified to NIJ Standard 0101.06 — the US benchmark for body armor — and listed on the NIJ Compliant Products List, the same registry agencies check before they buy.
